Boxing Bags

Q: What weight heavy bag should I get?

A good rule of thumb is to choose a bag that's roughly half your body weight. For most adults (70–90 kg), a 35–45 kg bag is ideal. Lighter bags swing more (good for movement drills), while heavier bags stay put for power work. Our NYT Microfibre bags come in oversized options for heavy hitters.

Q: What fill type is best — synthetic or traditional?

Microfibre/synthetic fill (like NYT bags) gives a consistent density that won't settle or create hard spots over time. Traditional rag-stuffed bags start firm and soften as they break in, but can develop uneven density. Microfibre bags are lower-maintenance and more consistent. Aqua bags use water for a realistic feel with less joint impact.

Q: What's the difference between a heavy bag and a Muay Thai bag?

Muay Thai (banana) bags are longer and thinner, typically reaching knee-height or lower for low-kick practice. Standard heavy bags are shorter and wider — better for boxing combinations and body shots. If you train both boxing and Muay Thai, a longer bag gives you more versatility.

How to Choose the Right Boxing Bag

Weight matters: A good rule of thumb is a bag roughly half your body weight. Lighter bags swing more — better for timing and movement. Heavier bags stay put — better for power.

Space & mounting: Hanging bags need a solid ceiling mount or wall bracket (we carry those too). Freestanding bags need about 1.5m of clear space around them. If you're short on room, a freestanding or wall-mounted bag is your answer.

Filled vs unfilled: Some bags ship pre-filled, others you pack yourself. Unfilled bags are cheaper to ship and let you control the density. Filled bags are ready to go the moment they arrive.

How do I mount a heavy bag at home?

You'll need a sturdy ceiling beam or wall bracket rated for the bag's weight plus dynamic load (swinging doubles the force). Use a heavy-duty swivel mount to reduce chain twisting. Ensure at least 1.5 metres of clearance around the bag for movement drills. If you're renting, consider a freestanding bag or a bag stand instead.
