What You Actually Need to Start

• Gloves — The one piece of gear you can't train without. For boxing or Muay Thai, start with 12-16oz training gloves. Most gyms require 16oz for sparring. Brands like Everlast, Sting, and Fairtex have solid entry-level options that won't break the bank.
• Hand Wraps — Non-negotiable. They protect your knuckles and stabilise your wrists. Get 180-inch wraps — the extra length gives you more padding. Elasticised wraps are easier to put on when you're learning.
• Mouth Guard — Required for any sparring. Boil-and-bite mouth guards from Shock Doctor or SISU are affordable and mould to your teeth at home.
